B-Sides

Not everything makes the cut. Sometimes, for one reason or another, your favorite tracks get left on the floor. These are a few of those projects that I’m thankful to have played a part in, but weren’t quite able to stand on their own.

2022 Trend Predictions

Credits
Role: Illustration
Client: Collective Measures
Agency: Electric
Copywriting: Erik Kvålseth

This series of illustrations were used to communicate the key ideas of Collective Measures’ annual predictions of marketing trends for 2022. In anticipation of another volatile year, these predictions aimed to educate CM’s clients so they had the figurative “life jackets and compasses” they needed to navigate through the challenging environment. These illustrations were promoted on digital platforms and printed as posters for their office.

Rock Out With Your Crock Out

Every winter Colle McVoy has a slow cooker potluck lunch. We had the opportunity to create an internal poster series with only two guardrails; it needed to be designed using the CM color palette and the event was named Rock Out With Your Crock Out. Our creative solution to this potential HR nightmare was to unite everyone through the soundtrack of the Crock Pot’s origins; 70’s classic rock, which we dubbed Crock Rock. And just like most crock pot recipes, let’s call Crock Rock what it is; a guilty pleasure of immense proportions that’s totally delicious.

In 2016, I was fortunate enough to be part of the design department at Colle McVoy that became 10 Thousand Design. Some still argue it was the greatest design team ever assembled. During the first year of its launch, all the designers were put on a continuous rotation to create social posts that introduced 10 Thousand to the design community. Posts I concepted and made to celebrate the AIGA National Design Conference in Minneapolis, Mustache Week and a 10T Timberwolves outing were some of my personal favorites.

Neary Family Reunion

Role: Design
Client: The Neary Clan

I’m often asked if I’m related to someone with the last name Neary. It’s a name that’s both common enough for where many are familiar with it and rare enough that people think it might actually be possible. Often times it is. My dad was from a big Irish Catholic family; one of 12 children. Those 12 children have grown into a clan more than tenfold its original size, spread out all over the country. In 2018, we gathered for a family reunion and I redesigned the family crest taking inspiration from the original but also brought in details that define to this particular clan of Neary’s. I additionally designed a collection of documents that tracked our collective history. Seeing my clan all wearing t-shirts I designed was a personal highlight of all of my creative pursuits.

FGI Alfalfabot

Alfalfa seed isn’t exactly the shining star of farming co-ops or advertising agencies. When Forage Genetics released two innovative seed offerings, they found retailers weren’t inclined to sell its benefits to farmers. So we installed our own salesperson at the point-of-purchase. We programmed an Amazon Echo Dot to be an alfalfa sales expert and placed it in farm supply stores across the country. The voice-activated Alfalfabot became the partner seed retailers can count on and farmers can trust to guide them to more success in the field. We were even named a finalist for a Creative Media Award alongside Alien: Covenant and Imagine Dragons. Not bad for a talking hockey puck slinging alfalfa seed.
